Janjgir Champa. These days the whole country is busy preparing for the Jagannath Rath Yatra. People have immense faith and devotion towards this Rath Yatra. Everyone has their own customs and rituals. Not only Odisha, Rath Yatra is celebrated with fervour in the neighbouring state of Chhattisgarh as well. Rath Yatra is held in Bastar and special offerings are made for the Lord in Janjgir Champa.
Malpua is made in Champa town of Janjgir Champa district for the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath. It is made only on the day of Rath Yatra. It is offered as prasad to Lord Jagannath. People from far and wide reach Champa to see the Rath Yatra and return home only after buying Malpua, the prasad of the Lord. Malpua is sold at Rs 150 to 170 per kg.
Rath Yatra on Dwitiya
Rathdutia is celebrated every year on the second day of Shukla Paksha of Ashad month. On this day, the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath is taken out. It is considered to have special importance in Hinduism. On this day, lakhs of devotees from all over the country reach Puri in Odisha to participate in the Rath Yatra. Rath Yatra is also taken out with great pomp in Champa Nagar of Janjgir Champa district.
Champa’s Malpua
Once a year, on the day of Rath Yatra, Malpua is made at many places in Champa city. After the Rath Yatra, people buy it as prasad and take it home. The crowd is so much that people have to stand in line for hours to buy Malpua. People like this Malpua made from jaggery very much.
